Meetings


 
Family Support Meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of the Month. Each month the Society typically hosts a guest speaker who is then followed by a family support discussion. Meetings take place at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 10 Northridge Parkway Charlottetown.
 
 
The Monthy Meetings start at 7:30PM- 9:00PM.
 

October 20th, 2010
This month's meeting will be held Wednesday, October 20th from 7:30-9:00pm in Charlottetown at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway. Guest speaker will be Occupational Therapist, Colleen MacPherson on the topic of Picky eaters. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
 

September 15th, 2010
This month's meeting will be held Wednesday, September 15th from 7:30-9:00pm in Summerside at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint. Guest speaker will be Sgt.Barry Arsenault of the Summerside Police Services. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
 
 
 

 
April 21st, 2010
This month's meeting will be held Wednesday, April 21st from 7:30-9:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of the Northridge Parkway and St. Peters Road. Guest speakers this month will be Courtney Patterson, Preschool Autism Coordinator and Marlene Breitenbach, Provincial Autism Coordinator from the Department of Education.
 
 

 
March 31st, 2010
 
This month's meeting will be the Annual General Meeting of the Autism Society of PEI. It will be held Wednesday, March 31st from 7:30-9:30pm. The Annual General Meeting will have reports from the President, Executive Director and the Financial Report for the Autism Society of PEI. There will also be a call for nominations for the Board of Directors. The Regular Family Support Meeting will follow the AGM. There will be no guest speaker this month.
 

December 16th, 2009- 7:30-9:30pm
 
This month's meeting will be held Wednesday, December 16th from 7:30-9:30pm with Guest Speaker Faye Williams from the Autism Society of PEI Board of Directors presenting on an autism conference held in Ontario which she attended. The meetings are held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway and are open for all to attend.
 

November 18th, 2009- 7:30-9:30pm
 
This months meeting will be held Wednesday, November 18th from 7:30-9:30pm with a Guest Speaker from the Bank of Montreal speaking on the Registered Disabilities Savings Plan (RDSP's). They will present a 45 minute workshop followed by questions. The meetings are held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway and are open for all to attend.
 

October 21st,2009- 7:30-9:30pm
 
This months meeting will be held Wednesday, October 21st from 7:30-9:30pm with Guest Speaker Pat King from the TRAP Rhythmic Arts Program. The meetings are held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway and are open for all to attend.
 

 
September 16th, 2009- 7:30pm-9:30pm
 
This months meeting will be held Wednesday, September 16th from 7:30pm-9:30pm with Guest Speakers Carolyn Bateman and Rhea Vardy MacPhee from the Stars for Life Foundation for Autism. The meetings are held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway and are open for all to attend.
 

 
June 17th, 2009- 7:00-9:00pm
 
This months meeting will be held Wednesday, June 17th from 7:30-9:00pm with Guest Speaker Peter Mutch on Relaxation Therapies. The meetings are held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of St. Peter's Road and the Northridge Parkway.
 
 
May 15th, 2009- 7:00-9:00pm
 
This months meeting that was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 20th with Guest Speaker Peter Mutch on Relaxation Therapies is cancelled. This meeting will be rescheduled for Wednesday, June 17th from 7:00-9:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
 

 April 15th, 2009 7:00-9:00pm
 
This months meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 15th from 7:00-9:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of the St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway. Guest speaker this month will be Dr. Amanullah. This event is open for all those with autism and asperger's as well as their family and friends.

March 25, 2009 7:00-9:00pm

Annual General Meeting and Family Support Meeting.

 This year’s meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 25th from 7:00-9:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of the St. Peters Road and the Northridge Parkway. The order of the meeting will be the Presidents and Staff Report followed by the Treasurer’s updates and budget and then the election of the Board of Directors. All of this should only take about 30 minutes and will then be followed by our regular Family Support Meeting with Guest Speaker: Colleen Douse who will be speaking on the gluten and casein free diet. (Note: The meeting will fall on the fourth Wednesday of the month so as not to interfere with March Break!)




February 18, 2009 7:00-9:00pm

 

The guest speaker this month will be Speech Language Pathologist, Joan Chapman. Joan will talk about first steps in establishing social communication with young children. This information would be most appropriate for families of young children who have been recently diagnosed with autism and those awaiting a diagnostic appointment.


January 21st, 2009 7:00-9:00pm

This months meeting, the Autism Society will be showing “Using Visual and Behavioral Cues in the Home-- Teaching functional lifeskills to young children with autism and other significant developmental disorders.”  In this 2-hour workshop, behavior specialist Dr. Robin Allen shares visual strategies and techniques to enhance communication, promote independence in daily living skills and reduce the occurrence of disruptive behaviors in children. Topics addressed include: Schedules and Routines, Choice Making, Self-Help (Grooming), Household Chores, Setting Behavioral Expectations, Community Outings, Materials Development, Setting Up the Home Environment and Resources.

 It is going to be an excellent program and we encourage everyone to attend!  The Society will also be bringing in our new books and resources that are brand new for our library. You will be able to borrow them that evening if there are materials you are interested in!
